First off, a big thank you to all who gave an opinion on the 2nd verse rewrite post from a few weeks ago. I decided to go with the popular vote and have put together two demos of the song. Though they are very similar, there are some slight tempo differences which make for slightly different feels. Version 1 has a little more finger picking and Version 2 is more of a steady strum with a pick. At this point, I'm not sure which one I personally like better which is why I'd love to get your opinion. What do you think? You can listen to the two versions below and then respond by voting directly below the song files. Once we have a winner, I'm guessing we'll give it a few days to a week; then I'll put a little more effort into the recording process with some back up vocals and such and finally be able to give you a free download of Alive for being so cool....and helpful! Feel free to leave any other written opinions below as well...and if you want some other free music, go here for now. I began a re-write of a song I recorded back in the day....way, way, back in the old time of about 2007-08. No, I'm not trying to live in the past, haha, it is more so something I randomly thought about and I began writing as the idea flowed. Once I was finished the re-write (well almost done...need your opinion below), the song had changed keys, changed some melodies, and the lyrics are almost completely different. I personally enjoy the new version and I think you will too. If you remember the song "Alive" from the "Matter of Time" cd, you may be surprised (and I don't know, maybe you won't be) at how much it has changed; it could almost be an entirely seperate song in itself. Any who, it is about 92.932111% finished. The only part I'm wrestling with is the lyrics in the 2nd verse, line 2, in bold below. This is where you're help is needed to finish this rewrite! so I can record it and give you the free mp3 download. First choice for you to make...do you like the start of verse 2, line 2 as option 1) Here before you I stand or option 2) I'm uncovered, laid bare. Secondly, do you like the end of the line as.... 1) offering every piece of me, 2) offering everything I am, 3) everything I have Please send your responses/opinions in below. Once we make a final decision I'll get it recorded in the next week...2 at the latest and like I said, send it out to you. Thanks for your amazing Alive (Only You That I'm After)
Verse 1: You’re the First and the Last You were, are, forever How could I not abide in the One who gives me life Chorus: In Your eyes, I'm alive I'm all Yours now and forever I surrender my heart It’s only You that I’m after Verse 2: Theres nothing, that could part, the bonding of our hearts Here before you I stand, offering every......(piece of me) or (thing I am) or (thing I have) or (line below) I'm uncovered, laid bare, offering every piece of me Bridge: It’s only in Your eyes, that I found true life Oh, You’re all that I’m after Its always been You, and it will always remain You Oh, You’re all that I’m after In the New Year it is my goal to help others better themselves by sharing different resources that have either helped me in the past or that I may have recently come across that I feel may be useful. Today I was talking to someone about the beauty of using a capo to make your life easier in transposing songs and to just make the guitar sound a little different (depending on the sound you are looking for). If you were unaware of, a capo is a little device you that you put on a fret of your guitar, it basically squeezes the strings of the guitar down, which changes the key of a song. I was reminded of the day I learned about a capo, and as I recall, I was so excited about the newness and freshness it gave me in my songwriting and worship leading abilities. Changing keys of a song from then on became as simple as strapping on a capo, moving it up the neck to the right spot. If you don't know the basic chord structures already, this may not make any sense; however, if you have a basic knowledge of the main guitar chords; I thought this resource would be helpful. It tells you what note you will be playing by using the capo while keeping your fingers in regular chord structure form; (although the same finger structure - since you are on a different fret, further up the neck of the guitar, the actual note being heard will be different). Let me know if you have any questions. Hope this helps you out and opens up your mind to new ways of playing songs and or changing keys. Enjoy. There are so many things I love about Christmas time. People seem to be just a little bit more chipper, family and friends come together, and there are sweets galore...if you didn't know, I have a major sweet tooth. And how can you forget all the classic Christmas songs! From Thanksgiving to Christmas at our house, you will likely hear one of our many Christmas mixes playing throughout the house. They are a good reminder of what the season is really about (our Savior's birth); this helps keep my spirits focused in the right direction. Today, in the spirit of Christmas music, I wanted to share a video of my Silly Grandma playing "Silent Night" on her harp. It's such a beautiful sounding and looking instrument and she does such a wonderful job playing one of my favorite Christmas songs. When we go back to Chicago area to visit, this is something I look forward to every time; very peaceful and inspiring. One day, I plan to record a Christmas song with Grandma. I have already asked her and she agreed she would love to team up, so some day, hopefully sooner than later we will get that going! Enjoy the song! Well, if you were unaware of...now you'll know. Along with the solo stuff I write, I also write on the side with my sister Jenny. We haven't done much yet, but when we do gather we call ourselves Confronting The Obvious. Here is a brief video highlighting a recent studio session recording "Wish You A Merry Christmas" which we plan on giving to you in the spirit of Christmas. As you can probably tell from the video...yes, we had a really great time, and yes... we are very excited and anxious to share it with you. Please enjoy the video and then click the button below to have us email you the mp3. We wish you the best over this Christmas season and hope this brings something fresh to your Christmas mix. I thought I'd kick the New Year off on the right foot. A goal I've had ever since recording "Matter of Time" was to get a video snapshot together to share with ya'll. Due to some initial computer and video camera issues, I was unable to put this together until now. But hey, better late than never, right! I hope you enjoy. Are there any goals or projects you have been putting off for a while? What is something you would like to kick off and check of the list this year? |
